Great Roots

About Us

After 30 years in the financial services industry marketing agribusinesses to investors to selling tomatoes in Flemington Markets and farmers markets.  Then, it was at Warwick Farm, I, Keith Platt, met a potato farmer, Graham Liney, from Laggan in country NSW. He was starting to bring in tissue culture to set up a seed program to fulfil a need for interesting potatoes in the kitchen. I soon found that spuds were much more interesting and agreed to take over the licenses from some of his European breeders and develop my own programmes here.

I now have a half a dozen different varieties that are commercially grown and many more in the pipeline.

I tend to use the customer base at Warwick Farm Trackside Market to taste test a variety before it goes commercial. You quickly find out if you're on a winner because the feedback is almost immediate.

Keith believes that a country should be able to feed itself and he would like to see potatoes on every table, especially when you see the nutritional value of some of his varieties.

Keith was one of the initial stall holders from the start of the market and was happy to put up his money to keep the market running when NSW Farmers Association pulled out.
